ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY AND THEORY: BUILDINGS ACROSS TIME - PART 4
This virtual event will contribute to the continuing development of the architectural professional by providing further mobility and transportability within the field of applying and understanding architectural history.
ABOUT THIS CPD EVENT
Architectural history begins with buildings. What is architecture? Certainly it is shelter, but it can be much more. The “shaping of space for human use” seems more obviously useful, but it hardly explains the fascination of the Egyptian pyramids or the symbolism of a state capitol building. Vitruvius considered the essentials of architecture to be firmitas, utilitas, and venustas, commonly translated as firmness, commodity, and delight.
Part 4 explores with text and videos, architecture, and thus buildings, in the following Chapters:
• The Twentieth Century and Modernism
• Modernism
• Post-Modernism
