ABOUT THIS CPD EVENT
Postmodern architecture emerged in the 1960s-70s as a reaction against Modernism's austerity, embracing eclecticism, historical references, irony, and playfulness, often combining diverse styles, bright colours, and ornamentation with modern techniques to create culturally rich and contextually responsive buildings that challenged Modernism's uniform, functionalist dogma. Key figures like Robert Venturi advocated for "complexity and contradiction," celebrating popular culture and symbolic meaning over pure form, leading to vibrant, symbolic structures that reconnect with history and public perception.
