Building plan approvals is a contentious issue today due to the fact delays stalls economic growth. There are several misinterpretations regarding the submission and approval process regarding building plans in South Africa. During this event the requirements as stipulated in the National Building Regulations and Standards Act (Act 103 of 1977, as amended) and the National Building Regulations (as amended) published in terms of the Act will be discussed with focus on the responsibilities of the owner (or appointed agent) and a local authority.
