ABOUT THIS CPD EVENT

South African homeowners are considering gas in their homes as a result of the Increasing costs in electricity. People are unaware that there are specific regulations that must be complied with to ensure that insurance policies remain valid. The National Standard SANS10087-1 addressing these requirements was reviewed in 2024.

According to the regulations that were introduced in 2009, all gas installations must have a Certificate of Conformity according to the Pressure Equipment Regulations that have been promulgated under the Occupation Health and Safety Act (No 85 of 1993).

While this may sound like a complex, legal document – essentially it is a certificate that states that the installation has been properly inspected and is determined to be safe and leak-free. It is critical that this certificate is also issued by an authorised person who is registered with the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Safety Association of Southern Africa (LPGAS).

Architectural professionals should be familiar with these requirements as they have to design buildings that have to take these requirements into consideration.

During this online event the requirements of the so-called gas regulations and the updated requirements in SANS 10087-1 (2024): The handling, storage, distribution and maintenance of liquefied petroleum gas in domestic, commercial, and industrial installations Part 1: Liquefied petroleum gas installations involving gas storage containers of individual water capacity not exceeding 500 L and a combined water capacity not exceeding 3 000 L per installation, will be discussed..
